Gastritis is a general name for a group of diseases characterized by inflammation, irritation, or erosion of the stomach lining. The cause of gastritis can be a bacterial or viral infection, stress, certain medications, excessive alcohol consumption, bile reflux, etc. With such a list of prerequisites, it is not surprising that every second person on the planet suffers from gastritis. In some it is asymptomatic, in others it occurs suddenly (acute gastritis), in others it leads to permanent interruption of life (chronic gastritis). The symptoms of gastritis are as follows:
- upset stomach;
- Loss of appetite.
- Hiccup.
- Flatulence.
- nausea.
- Vomiting.
- stomach pain.
- The stool is dark in color and has the consistency of tar.
All of this is very unpleasant, and even more unpleasant are the likely consequences of gastritis - such as ulcers or stomach cancer. But wait until you panic! The disease is not so serious if you follow a diet for gastritis.
Who needs a diet for gastritis? To everyone whose lives he poisons in one way or another.Since gastritis is an inflammation of the stomach, it is extremely important to monitor what goes into the stomach. Some foods contribute to the development and increase of inflammation, while others “calm” it.Even if gastritis is asymptomatic, you should at least generally stick to your diet - this will prevent the disease from getting worse.
What you shouldn't eat for gastritis
The most important aspect of diet for gastritis is not to irritate the already irritated stomach, that is, to eat foods that are as neutral as possible.Of course, this does not mean that until the end of time you can only eat chicken and stewed vegetables without salt, but you need to give up all kinds of spicy, salty, dried, smoked foods, especially if the doctor prescribed a diet for gastritis with high acidity. So what shouldn't you eat?

- Spicy dishes. These include many national dishes: Korean kimchi, Thai tom yum, Mexican tacos.
- Fatty foods. This also includes fast food - the fat content in it is significantly higher than usual.Studies have consistently shown that excessive fat consumption makes gastritis worse, and you certainly don't want that.
- Alcohol.Any alcohol is a risk factor provoking attacks of gastritis, so it is better to avoid it altogether.Even a tiny portion can be the straw that breaks the camel's back.
- Highly acidic foods. These include, for example, citrus fruits.
- Sweets and cucumbers.Unfortunately, both also irritate the stomach walls, so you have to salt and sweeten your food in moderation. This also includes industrially produced juices and lemonades - these are definitely not on the list of what you can drink if you have gastritis.
- Bakery. It's better to buy or bake whole grain bread.
- Kvass.Definitely not.
- Fermented milk products. The stomach lining cannot tolerate it either. This also includes whole milk. You can use sour cream, but not much.
- spices and sauces.Be careful with them: even ketchup can provoke an attack, not to mention adjika. The grinder with the pepper mixture must be removed from the table and the mustard is also unnecessary.
Sometimes the cause of inflammation can be an allergy to something, but these are quite rare cases.
To help you navigate, here are examples of foods that should be excluded from the diet for gastritis.
You can't eat:Sausage, fresh bread, baked goods, fatty cheese, sweets and cakes, cucumbers, cakes, scrambled eggs, fried cutlets, hodgepodge, kharcho, dried meat, cherries, currants, cranberries, French fries, ready meals, fatty meat, onions, corn, chocolate, nuts, garlic, hard-boiled eggs, ready meals, liver, fatty fish (salmon, tuna), canned food, legumes, mushrooms, unripe fruits.
You can't drink:Cocoa, strong tea, juices, any alcohol, carbonated sweet drinks, energy drinks.
In general, nutrition for gastritis depends on the acidity of the stomach and, accordingly, whether it needs to be increased, decreased or “left alone”.
If your acidity is high, eliminate extra coffee, rye bread, citrus fruits, tomatoes, meat and fish broths, beets, cabbage, pearl barley, barley and millet. However, you should not overdo it with all of these products, even if the acid content is low.By the way: You can prepare milk soups at high temperatures, but not at low temperatures.
In addition, sensitivity to food may vary from person to person, so for example cabbage, nuts or dairy products can be tried for gastritis (only outside the exacerbation and in small doses). If everything is in order, small doses of these products can be left in the diet. However, the “let’s try it” method generally doesn’t apply to fatty, spicy or salty foods, and certainly not to alcohol. The stomach here definitely won't say thank you, and not because it can't speak.
Diet for gastritis: what you can eat

Now let's talk about what you can eat for gastritis. It may seem like we've already named everything in the previous paragraph, but fortunately that's not the case. However, before moving on to the list of approved products, we give general recommendations from doctors. So:
- Eat fractionally - often and in small portions so as not to overload your stomach.5-6 times a day - and the inflammation begins to calm down.
- The food should be warm.Food that is too cold or too hot irritates the stomach lining and inflammation increases.
- The more thoroughly you chew, the better.Regardless of whether you have high or low acid gastritis, a gastritis diet is primarily about avoiding foods that could mechanically irritate the stomach. That is why during exacerbations it is recommended to eat pureed, pureed food.
- Everything should be either stewed, boiled or stewed. You should not eat fried food.
Let's move on to the main point: what can you eat for gastritis? The list will be quite impressive. There are no special problems if you eat:
- Lean meat: chicken, turkey, ideally rabbit.Steamed cutlets, baked meat, tongue.
- Low-fat fish: Pollock or hake.
- Dried white bread, maybe yesterday's bread.
- Dairy products are low in fat and sugar and benefit from probiotics.
- Pasta (small whole-wheat pasta is better, but normal pasta, for example “spider web” will also do).
- Vegetables: broccoli, pumpkin, carrots, cauliflower, potatoes, zucchini. You can eat vegetables - dill, parsley, just cut them smaller.
- Fruit: Baked apples come first. If acidity is low, you can use citrus fruits. All fruits must be ripe.
- Sweets: marshmallows, marshmallows, honey, sour jam or jam in small quantities.
- Dairy products: cottage cheese and cottage cheese dishes, low-fat milk, kefir, yogurt.
- Oil: Butter or refined vegetable oil.
- Broths: vegetables, with low acidity, meat and fish in any case - weak.
- Cereals: buckwheat, rice, oatmeal, semolina, you can cook porridge, prepare puddings or casseroles.
- Eggs: soft-boiled, in the form of a steam omelet (by the way, works well in the microwave).
As you can see, the disease allows for a varied and balanced diet.If a child has been diagnosed with inflammation of the stomach, the question of what to eat with gastritis is also not worth it, just follow the list above. Now for drinking:
- Dried fruit compote and more – we remember kindergarten.By the way, very tasty and healthy.
- Kissel.
- Weak tea.
- For low acidity – coffee.
- Rosehip decoction.
Let's repeat: it is especially important to follow a diet during exacerbations and for two weeks after them.At other times you can treat yourself, but it's better not to get carried away with it, otherwise you will have to sit on porridge and pureed soups for half a month - not a good prospect.
